The Latin Curriculum Vitae (CV) literally means ‘course of life’ and is a detailed, in-depth, cumulative account of your education, work, projects, and achievements in chronological order. It is normally between 3-15 pages but has no outer limit as such.
It is often used in:
1. Academia; 2. Clinical medical professions; 3. Senior positions.Nowadays, there is a tendency to use the term ‘CV’ and ‘Resume’ (described below) interchangeably, although employers and others prefer resumes almost universally. If a detailed CV is required, it will be asked for specifically.
The French ‘Résumé’ is a short document, normally between 1-3 pages that highlights your career and is customized for each new job application with the strategic use of skills, experience and keywords from each job description. It is the summary of a person’s education, qualifications, skills, previous experience, extra-curricular activities and interests, typically sent with job applications.
Resumes are also sent with applications for:
1. Internships; 2. Scholarships; 3. MBAs; 4. PhDs; 5. Foreign graduate & Post-graduate studies
